Why we exist
We exist to improve everyday experiences of dying, death and bereavement. And ensure people can access the right help, at the right time – in the right place.
Five principles underpin everything we do:
- Promote death and grief as natural life processes
- Cultivate a collaborative culture for community support
- Support individual and community health planning
- Reduce fear and stigma associated with illness and death
- Build individual and collective resilience in the face of grief and loss
HELP aims to build the capacity of sectors, organisations, and communities to deliver a public health approach to end-of-life care.
To achieve this, we work across three domains:

- Research and evaluation: we collect and link community, organisational and individual data to fill the information gap around public health palliative care.
- Education and training: we upskill practitioners involved in supporting community members. And cultivate public health palliative care capabilities across sectors.
- Practice: we develop best-practice resources to build sector and organisational capacity in public health palliative care.
